God grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference.
The well-known and often quoted “Serenity Prayer” provides a simple, yet a powerful guide in our search for happiness and contentment in our lives
Seeking the three virtues mentioned can be a goal of any of us in need of greater peace and tranquility.
While the concept of offering up a prayer implies a spiritual connection, how the appeal is directed is certainly up to the individual.
Good reminder, Judson. Other favorites of mine:
* The what is, is.
* Do what you can, with what you have, where you are. ~ Teddy Roosevelt
Both remind me to accept what is outside my control.
No matter how much we shake our fists at the sky, the rain will keep falling.
Yes … Seems like Shakespeare wrote something about “Raging against the storm …” as well.
“I need serenity
In a place where I can hide
I need serenity
Nothing changes, days go by
Where do we go when we just don’t know
And how do we relight the flame when it’s cold?
Why do we dream when our thoughts mean nothing
And when will we learn to control?”
Godsmack- Serenity
I listened to the youtube. Loved the fact that this particular metal band enunciates the words unlike so many others. Dark lyrics, but certainly powerful interpretation. Thaks for the nudge …
